Yossi – ‘Lost Souls’ EP

Out today from London-based artist Yossi, Lost Souls is stirring EP that melds poetic spoken-word power with enveloping instrumentation — spacing from spacey synth lushness to driving rhythmic infectiousness. Lyrical explorations also intrigue in their explorations of self and society. Bolstering the sound is instrumentation and production from Dylan Van Der Molen.

Enamoring with its grimy electric guitar infusions and hypnotic percussive pulse, “The City” kicks off this memorable trio of tracks. “Lost in the city metamorphosis,” Yossi lets out, exuding a striving to find “something more than this.” The metropolitan London imagery — “intoxicating city glow, radiating everywhere we go,” — moves with a poetic infectiousness. A late-night city soundscape achieves as well via the chiming guitars, ghostly vocal backing, and driving rhythmic entrancement.

The EP’s title track continues the captivating atmospheric glow. A glimmering effervescence emits via glistening trickles, moving seamlessly within Yossi’s rising ardency. “There’s a lot that stills needs changing, but we’ll figure it all out,” Yossi’s lyrics envelop, traversing thereafter into a blissful finale wherein the soundscape sends chills in its dreamy, spacey glow. Its perspectives on social isolation are impactful throughout. Finale “Tryfan” beckons for “some fucking answers,” alongside similarly hypnotic instrumentation, trippy and delightful in its stream-of-conscious metaphysical outpouring. Yossi’s Lost Souls EP is a gripping spoken-word success throughout.

“Lost Souls” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
