WEALTH – “Concrete”

//

The debut single from brotherly duo WEALTH, “Concrete” is a resonating post-punk and synth-pop hybrid. The brothers comprising this project live in different places — Sydney, Australia, and Bordeaux, France — though collaborate seamlessly nonetheless. Their thematic aims are in the realms of modern living, loneliness, and Australian politics, with the latter arising here. The release is described as “about Sean’s exasperation at Australia’s voting population, a love letter to his country, and plea for it to do better.”

Throbbing post-punk synth-bass and moody guitar intertwining pairs with a debonair vocal drive for an atmospheric ascent. More colorful synth tones combine with a soaring vocal feeling into the mid-point, invoking New Order in the guitar working approaching the two-minute turn. “Concrete” is a stylish and melodic success from the duo, whose next release we’re certainly anticipating.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
