vostoksounds – ‘Frameworks’ EP

/

A strikingly atmospheric EP from vostoksounds, Frameworks spans from neo-classical lushness to riveting rock soundscapes. The Norwich, England-based composer, arranger, and producer showcases memorable songwriting and an alluring thematic approach within this compelling release.

“From a composition perspective, the idea of numbering each piece as a sequential ‘Framework’ was that, in keeping with the original idea of this music accompanying works of visual art, there is a single musical motif contained in each that links all four pieces,” he explains. “The pieces are all in different keys and very different styles but all of them feature a simple, descending minor triad in such a way for it to become obvious only when you know it’s there.”

The opening “Framework #1” casts an enveloping intrigue throughout, propelled by an initial piano-led radiance that moves into a swelling feedback layering — balancing elegance and passion within a neo-classical, ambient allure. The ensuing “Framework #2” consumes with a string-laden grandiosity, invoking a cinematic captivation as doses of twangy guitars weave in alongside; a synth-forward infectiousness charms throughout its second half, against showcasing the project’s versatile tonal strengths.

The second half of the EP continues to captivate, with “Framework #3” delighting across both its features of mellow keys and enthusiastic brass; the latter is an especially enveloping element into its satiating conclusion. EP finale “Framework #4” struts one of the release’s delectably dark soundscapes, infusing trip-hop and electronica influences in its debonair, brooding assortment of guitar buzzes and jangling. Frameworks is an enveloping, atmospheric success from vostoksounds.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Rainy Days and Late Night Drives.
