Stone Arch Rivals – “The One You’ll Want Tomorrow”

/

A funky delight of a debut from Minneapolis-based band Stone Arch Rivals, “The One You’ll Want Tomorrow” infuses vibrant horns and a climactic vocal drive for a replay-inducing charm. The radiant production comes via the act’s upcoming debut album, That’s What They Say, releasing in early fall. “This song is like a note to my younger self,” says lead singer Claire Spinti. “It’s about realizing that the best things in life are worth waiting for—whether it’s love, success, or finding your voice. And if you can dance while you wait? Even better.”

A bursting charisma is on display right away, as the expressive brass moves seamlessly within a funky rhythm section and eventual debonair guitar emergence. “You’re in front of me, and I can’t speak,” Spinti sings, smitten in depictions of how “I grow weak,” in one’s presence. “I can’t be the one you want tonight,” the rousing vocals let out, with call-and-response vocal reflections adding to the infectious immersion. The horn arrangement, featuring Ivan Jackson (Brasstracks), stirs in its range between steadier accompaniments within the verses and more enthusiastic blaring during the central hook.

The release represents a definitive funky pop success from Stone Arch Rivals, who artfully infuse themes of weighing instant gratification against holding out for a more worthwhile result. We’re certainly now anticipating this fall’s release of their full-length, That’s What They Say.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Funk/Soul.
