Stell and the Comedown Club – “Change Your Mind”

/

An infectious rock success from Stell and the Comedown Club, “Change Your Mind” pairs hooky guitar work with a dynamic vocal performance — spanning from the “you’ve got some nerve now,” emotive soaring to more dreamier momentum. The Bristol, England-based project is led by Stell Kousiounis, who crafts all vocals and instrumentation, with co-production coming from Tarrant Shepherd. The track was originally written on piano — and was naturally much slower at its time of inception — though has since livened up into an anthemic, expanded rocker that thoroughly satiates in its melodic momentum.

The project’s fourth single, “Change Your Mind” fondly resembles The Strokes in its initial guitar layers — infusing a pulsing rhythm guitar quickness amidst a wailing central ferocity. Kousiounis’ debonair vocals ask “if I could change your mind, would you stay the night?” as rumbling guitars lean in, launching thereafter into an invigorating hookiness — “time flies when you’re losing your mind,” — that quickly induces replays in its eclectic vocal tone and peppy vibrancy.

“You know I’d do anything for you, anything that you ask me to,” the smitten sentiments continue. The adoring lyricism infuses within an evident yearning to “change your mind,” as guitars alternative between quainter momentum and roaring passion. A fleeting guitar solo builds into a fulfilling final minute, continuing to tempt ample repeat listens in its contagious rock charm and approachable energy.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
