Nashville-based quartet MIDTONES continue to strut a charismatic rock appeal on “Won’t Be Long,” emphasizing the power of patience when one is confronted with adversity. “It won’t be long now,” a steady vocal envelopment takes hold as chugging guitars and bright organs infuse alongside, driving thereafter into a crisp twanginess. The band caught our attention recently with the track “Here We Go Again,” which along with “Won’t Be Long Now” comes via the band’s upcoming third LP, out later this year.
A stirring, vibrant rock energy stirs across the first half. A striking, moody shift captivates past the two-minute turn — where quivering vocal dramatics meld with dreamier guitars and then into a dreamy synth-laden intrigue. A soaring rock conclusion enthralls thereafter, with enjoyable shades of The War on Drugs as the “never let me go,” vocal outpouring appears. “Won’t Be Long Now” is another thorough rock success from MIDTONES.
