Louisville-based artist Michael Vettraino unveils a powerful sound on new track “A Lie Not Alive,” where ruminations on humanity are propelled by deeply resonant vocal layers, spacey synth buzzing, and a wonderfully soaring second-half culmination. “I wrote this thinking about humanity in the context of geological timescales and how we align and differ with the rest of the animal kingdom,” Vettraino explains, also noting how “the effect of greed on USA society,” influenced these perspectives of the modern human experience.
The heady introspection also comes in the release’s role as part of an aural triptych — immersing listeners on a journey through the past, present, and future; this track represents the past. “How many cities are lost…” Vettraino’s opening vocals contemplate, certainly echoing that past-minded introspection. Affecting synth layers rise seamlessly into a multi-layered bellowing, with lyrical reflections on stuck memories continuing to haunt within shimmering synth effervescence. “All of our hubris, and all of our greed,” his vocals further, reminding enjoyably of Magnetic Fields in the emotive vocal ascent and synth-ready bolstering amidst the poignant lyricism. “A Lie Not Alive” is an impactful, memorable success from Michael Vettraino — whose next single, releasing soon, is one we’re certainly anticipating.
