hbiba – “Something Here”

/

A moving track from hbiba, “Something Here” melds sincere lyrical introspection amidst a mixture of pit-pattering percussion, electronic textures, and trickling guitars. Per the artist, the track captures feelings “of being replaced, discarded, dismissed in a way that is not dramatic.” Continuing: “It’s just like a distant ache you get about something/someone that used to be there.”

“This is the first song I wrote after a long period of cognitive impairment,” hbiba explains. “I couldn’t hear music or songs anymore, it was an eerie feeling after spending most of my life making music.”

Solemn observations — “I’m losing my mind,” with a basement apartment setting — arrive with impactful appeal, asking “when can we go to bed?” as the serene guitars intertwine seamlessly. Glimmering textures and twangy guitar tones complement the dreamy, melodic vocal haze with replay-inducing immersion. “Something Here” marks a memorable, from-the-heart success from hbiba.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
