Chris Garcia Sullivan – “Rewind”

/

Riveting with its folk-rock expanse and yearning for a fonder time and place, “Rewind” is the latest single from Chris Garcia Sullivan. The Bristol, England-based artist first caught our ears with the excellent debut “Butterflies” a couple months ago, and continues to showcase a penchant for heartfelt, melodic songwriting with today’s release of “Rewind.” “Nostalgia can hurt, but it can also be a refuge,” Sullivan says of the track. “Sometimes, looking back to easier, better times can inspire you to move in a new direction or align with your true self once again.”

A warming, vintage folk sound enamors initially, as calming acoustic trickles lead into a serene vocal introspection. “Tell me something, did you press rewind just to play your favorite lines?” Sullivan asks, traversing with dreamy enchantment into the “man on the run,” introspections. The themes of yearning for better times — “to when life was a movie,” — is fully impactful. “Rewind” soars even higher in its enveloping second half, embracing a more rock-heavy charm. Continued ruminations for “easy times,” appeal amidst these bursting guitar twangs, as well, then concluding with a lush folk reprisal. “Rewind” is another impactful success from Chris Garcia Sullivan.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
