Listen: Charlotte Grayson - "Low Standards" -- Obscure Sound

Charlotte Grayson – “Low Standards”

/

Escalating from acoustic-set admissions into an impassioned rock hookiness, “Low Standards” is a single released today from Charlotte Grayson, an artist based in Hartlepool, England. The production features Millie Jones, from the band Crescent, on backing vocals — adding an additional melodic immersion to this memorable overall showing, which derives from personal experience. “‘Low Standards’ is about my terrible taste in men,” Grayson says. “On the plus side I wouldn’t have released any albums without them, so you know, it’s not all a waste…”

An acoustic-laden briskness runs throughout the verses as Grayson’s lusher initial reflections rouse into a more rock-ready fervor. “You introduced me to all of your friends, but I know you’ll always choose them,” she admits — traversing seamlessly thereafter into a punchy rock ardor. “‘Cause I got low standards,” Grayson punctuates that electric central hook, beckoning for real answers. Pulsing guitars are infectiously memorable into the “…should be paying me child support,” touch, intensifying into a final chorus and title-touting finality. Parts introspective and angst-y, “Low Standards” is a surefire success from Charlotte Grayson.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
