Liverpool-based project Baltic Jazz Recordings channels a captivating soul/funk cohesion on new single “Futuristic.” The heartfelt vocals of MÆVEY bolster the gripping soundscape, as do additions from Mama Terra, an act led by Glaswegian pianist and composer Marco Cafolla.
The track’s stirring production and collaborative power is evident of what’s come out the past several years from Baltic Jazz Recordings, a label formed in 2022 by Grammy and Brit Award-winning producer Steve Levine. They showcase talented artists within memorable productions that intertwine neo-soul, jazz, classic pop, and beyond. Another shining example is last year’s RE:VEALED EP, which also featured MÆVEY.
“Futuristic” succeeds in all its components — from the dynamic vocals to delectably moody instrumentation. MÆVEY’s vocals consume in their tonal variety, lushly enveloping in “moving through the ether,” verses whilst invigorating in the title-touting ardent declaration. Meanwhile, Mama Terra’s keyboard-driven contributions move seamlessly within, invoking a spacey atmospheric power. The keys play with particularly inviting immersion in the song’s softer moments, building climactically into brassy, jazz-forward fervency. The outer-space setting is furthered in the track’s closing moments, impactfully concluding this standout success.
