tesh – “WANTS & NEEDS”

/

“WANTS & NEEDS” is the latest success from Los Angeles-based electronic artist tesh, taking inspiration from UK garage in its hypnotic rhythmic pulses and spacey synth adornments. An infectious blend of vocal layers persist alongside, working in seamlessly amidst a structural development from melancholic contemplation into a more bursting catharsis.

“It echoes my own battles with fear versus belief and doubt to determination,” tesh says of the new single. “The track this transformation, with the final resolve representing the embrace of self-belief against my own self doubt.”

Squeaky electronic shimmering complements an initial soulful vocal presence, complemented quickly thereafter by a higher-pitched reflection. The house-ready percussive aspects arrive shortly thereafter, as moody piano lines unveil alongside. “You can get it if you need it,” the vocal work continues, immersing into a mid-point that emphasizes lush piano tones and conversational vocal samples — there reminding fondly of DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ. A sense of catharsis achieves at the two-minute turn, as the glistening synths, bursting rhythms, and vocals converge delightfully. “WANTS & NEEDS” is a catchy, replay-inducing charmer from tesh.

“WANTS & NEEDS” comes via tesh’s upcoming album CYCLES + REPETITIONS, out on April 25th via San Holo’s bitbird imprint.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
