Captivating in its range between dreamy introspection and rousing rock soaring, “Black Cat” is an enveloping new single from Minneapolis-based act Stoney Point. An initially sporadic built of textured guitar distortion, feedback, and flanging effects build into a steadier pulse into the one-minute turn. The warming sound is further bolstered by ghostly backing vocals, maintaining a consuming presence between both lush spaciousness and heavier-rocking vigor. Guitar, two bass, and a synthesizer comprise a winning arsenal here, resulting in a soundscape-heavy rock success.
The fuzzy rock appeal of “Black Cat” lingers with strong atmospheric immersion, and showcases what one can anticipate from the project’s live performances; they have already begun their Blue Machine 2025 tour, and look to continuously add dates throughout the year. A stellar rock entrancement shows throughout “Black Cat,” complemented artfully by themes of how overcoming fears and embracing a process of self-discovery can result in personal growth. We’re looking forward to hearing what’s next.
