Embracing an ’80s nostalgia in its glistening synths and soaring guitar work, Stockholm-based project Star Vision crafts a stylish, atmospheric cover of Lionel Richie’s “Running with the Night.” Also enamoring on the production is Greek guitarist Jimmy Konsta, whose impassioned guitar lines channel an emotively gripping throwback feeling. Star Vision is the brainchild of artist Scott van Dort, who describes this release as taking him back to the ’80s and ’90s. “I immediately envisioned a version where guitars and synths took the lead, bringing a fresh yet nostalgic take on this classic.”
Hazy synths and trickling guitars build a compelling momentum to start, complemented by a burst of guitars as the moody vocal immersion. References to neon lights proves apt within the illuminated ’80s production, also dazzling in its pulsing bass line. “We were running with the night,” the vocals continue, establishing a nighttime-set intrigue as clanging keys pair with powerful guitars into the “looking so good, girl,” sense of being smitten. Capturing the fire within two lovers in a star-crossed ’80s night, ‘”Running with the Night” is an excellent interpretation of the Lionel Richie classic from Star Vision.
