Plastic Soldiers – “Borrowed Time”

Showcasing a melodic power-pop timelessness, “Borrowed Time” is a consuming new single from Plastic Soldiers, the father-and-son duo of Bill Mecaughey and his son Todd. The track is described as “a tongue-in-cheek, truth-in-jest meditation on mortality and longevity–reflecting on how the years pile up and take their toll.”

Twangy guitars drive into a steady vocal presence, admitting “I can’t help but notice my time is constrained,” as harmonious backing reflections enamor alongside. The title-referencing hook arrives seamlessly thereafter, preceded by a soaring guitar line. A bridge at the two-minute turn, pleading to “spare me a dime,” also engages in its hooky pull. A memorable central hook and fantastic backing vocal harmonies highlight this enjoyable output from Plastic Soldiers.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
