myah – ‘IS THIS WHAT I SEE?’ EP

Los Angeles-based artist myah stirs with a synth-led pop and rock appeal throughout IS THIS WHAT I SEE?, a memorable new EP with themes of love and existentialism. “I struggle a lot with existentialism and how time moves too fast,” myah says. “I miss the memories of the past a lot, and I often wonder what life would be like if it moved a little slower. This EP is my way of capturing those feelings.”

Opening the EP, “with you” bridges breezy guitars and dazzling synth flourishes within a hooky “I don’t wanna miss you,” admission. “Will we finally kiss?” the vocals continue during a dreamier section, traversing seamlessly into the aforementioned hook. The ensuing “i’ll be your light” struts a buzzing pop immediacy, asking “is this how it ends for us?” within a stirring anthem that feels like a post-mortem to a relationship; the title-touting hook arrives subsequently, with a starry-eyed synth glow. Elsewhere, “flames” stands out for its evolution from lush intrigue into cathartic invigoration; we covered that track more in-depth last year, here.

Another standout, “lost at sea” asks “how can this be?” while retracing efforts to stay afloat amidst tumult. Serene vocal layers and jangling guitars traverse within a compelling soundscape. EP finale “say it” weaves vocal introspection and mellow piano pulses to start, infusing sharp synth atmospherics as the vocal momentum escalates — admitting “I lost it all, and I’m willing to fall,” as the catchy rhythms infuse. An acknowledgment that “it’s over,” and a drive to “go out on my own,” shows alongside, furthering the release’s themes of love and existentialism within the lens of one breaking free from prior strife.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
