Monks of Symbiosis – ‘Monks of Symbiosis’

The new self-titled album from Monks of Symbiosis compels with memorable, psych-friendly rock expanses — embracing atmospheric introspection within a seamless mix of haunting harmonies, moody guitar work, and dynamic vocal performances that range from gentle, ethereal refrains to powerful, soaring moments.

Opening the album, “Fine Line” haunts with beautifully harmonious vocal layers — letting out a “it’s a fine line,” refrain that proves moving amidst moody guitars and frolicking piano. Soaring guitar work and a powerful “falling,” vocal enthrallment takes hold thereafter, into a psych-friendly enamoring. The band describe this fantastic opener as about “universal feelings about endings and beginnings. It carries the tensions of loss and hopeful transformation.”

Another highlight, “You Are Not Alone” builds on a piano-set introspection, with shades of Deacon Blue and The Blue Nile in its atmospheric sophisti-pop hints. “You are not alone,” warming vocals emit during the spirited ascent, sending chills in its evolution from nocturnal haunts into the brighter enthusiasm. The ensuing “Eve” continues to showcase the band’s quality songwriting. Spanning over seven minutes, “Eve” is an epic listening experience — venturing from atmospheric, chilly guitars and strings interplay, into a bursting rock catharsis in the second half. Monks of Symbiosis consistently captivate across their self-titled album.
