Boston-based artist Marc Soucy crafts a riveting expanse within “Sympatico Now,” which swells from initial industrial eeriness into a catchier and approachable electro-pop fusion. The release represents the 10th single from Soucy’s music series STIR: Soundscapes Evoking Realities Only Imagined. World music and sci-fi surrealism remain aspects within Soucy’s enveloping soundscapes, also showcased via previous single “Montana” in its piano/strings interplay. “Sympatico Now” continues Soucy’s knack for electric aesthetical integrations and compelling melodic evolutions.
An unsettling ambience takes hold initially, as an eerie swell of electronics converge. A more melodic presentation of electro-pop emerges, as string-laden mystique and steady percussion arrive alongside the more composed synths. The initial structural swell resembles the impending arrival of darkness, and then an ensuing clarity with a brighter spacey effervescence. Bouncy synth-bass and twangy tones converge beautifully by the two-minute mark, resembling a chamber-pop and electro-pop intertwining in the cohesive melding of synths and ghostly strings. “Sympatico Now” is a wonderfully evolving success from Marc Soucy, succeeding in both its opening unease and ensuing melodic sharpness.
