New Album: Inal Bilsel - 'Once Upon a Cloudtop Meadow'

Inal Bilsel – ‘Once Upon a Cloudtop Meadow’

An album out today from Cyprus-based artist Inal Bilsel, Once Upon a Cloudtop Meadow presents a beautiful orchestral sound — glistening across its frolicking, imaginative compositions. A sense of effervescent wonderment is apparent throughout, reflective of its fairy tale-inspired concept. One can easily imagine the songs within as part of a fantasy film, set in a lush green valley where all its creatures live in blissful harmony. A mythical story is conveyed via the memorable instrumentation, infused with vocal elements that further bolster the imaginative listening experience.

Setting the story into motion, “Once Upon A Time” begins the fairy tale with gentle piano pulses amidst a simmering orchestral lushness. The addition of a child’s voice adds to the feeling of innocence and safety, enhanced at the two-minute turn as soaring instrumentation invokes an exotic far-away world. Another highlight, “Meet Cloudman” resembles something from a Miyazaki film. Melodic vocal section pair with twinkling orchestration, with the strings taking on an especially moving role. Once Upon a Cloudtop Meadow doesn’t waste any time in establishing its magnetic, cinematic atmospheric presence.

“A Night at the Cloudtop Imaginarium” is another standout, particularly for its infusion of trickling keys that rise and fall in emotive intensity; it’s apt to envision this one as accompanying some type of underwater setting. Similarly, “Into The Forest” is suggestive of a calming, green forest in its stately strings and rain-like effects. Once Upon a Cloudtop Meadow is a masterful showcase in composition and atmospheric arrangements from Inal Bilsel.

“A Night at the Cloudtop Imaginarium” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
