A dynamic, spacey electronic intrigue consumes within Constellations, the new album from Paris-based artist Florent Lelong. Spanning from the foreboding dark reaches of space within the spacious “Taurus” to the effervescent thrill of discovery in “Cygnus,” Constellations achieves a magnetic, melodic captivation in its tonal range and consistently high-quality songwriting. Lelong’s variety of influence — ranging from ambient and pop to classical and urban music — combines with a knack for futuristic-sounding synth embraces for an enveloping sound across Constellations.

Each track title is representative of a different constellation, and “Pegasus” kicks off the release with a dreamily enthralling momentum. Pit-pattering rhythmic elements pair with sporadic synth glistening for a lush initial flow, then expanding into a punchier, concise lead. Bass-y ruminations and sharply melodic synth tones intermingle with stellar cohesion. “Orion” follows, immediately emitting a larger swell of grandiose synth pads and wordless vocal-like elements — invoking a sort of chillwave nostalgia in turn. The blaring synth work at mid-point is particularly inviting, and the track dazzles in its melodic immersion throughout.

“Draco” is another highlight, standing out for its steady rhythmic briskness alongside synths that stretch from starry-eyed backings to more upfront twinkling. Impressing across its eight tracks, Constellations is an atmospheric, replay-inducing gem of a listening experience from Florent Lelong.
