Egentid – “Call You Back”

/

A heartfelt folk-pop radiance shows on “Call You Back,” the debut single from Swedish band Egentid. Lyrical ruminations on personal growth and striving to improve prove relatable, within a warming arsenal of lush piano, shimmering acoustics, and lovely vocal harmonies. The latter is especially evident in the title-bearing refrain, culminating in the “you could be my fire … I could be your spark,” smitten sense in the ensuing verses. The lush vocal work and folk-pop aesthetic is magnetic throughout, featuring the excellent production of Wallentin Rickardsson, who has worked with artists such as The Radio Dept. and Benjamin Gustafsson.

The overall topic within — emphasizing personal betterment, for the good of one’s loved ones — is poignant within the band members’ places in life. Specifically, they are all new fathers, who met during Limhamn’s open preschool father meetups. This connection turned into a creative project, featuring quality songwriting like “Call You Back” and themes that are fitting in the context of parenthood. “There’s something about parenthood that makes you both more efficient and more eager to carve out time for yourself – your ‘egentid’ (personal time),” the band says.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
