BROTHER – ‘Going Home’ EP

A rousing debut EP from BROTHER, Going Home struts a no-frills rock entrancement throughout — inspired by classics like ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac, and The Rolling Stones. From the suave blues-rock progressions of “Set Me Free” to the heartfelt alt-country duets within the stirring title track, Going Home is a thorough success from the band, based in Wigan, England.

The EP’s invigorating opener “Set Me Free” kicks into motion via sturdy guitar crunches and jangly intrigue. The guitar layers build alongside escalating percussion into a bluesy rock soundscape, sating in its overall melodic direction. Another standout, “Everything You Got” attains a charismatic southern-rock nostalgia in its range of sweltering guitar work and panting rhythmic momentum. “I’m scared to make a change,” riveting vocals let out, building into a dual-vocal power.

Finale “2AM” proves moving in its solemn vocal haunts and “want to kiss you,” yearning, adorned by twangy guitar beauty and prancing piano illumination. Going Home excels in its dynamic range, from affecting balladry like “2AM” to anthemic rock successes that precede it. We’re excited to hear what’s next from the rising act.

“Set Me Free” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
