Hamburg-based project Baydream unveil a dreamily inviting sound on their new EP, Moonshine. Ranging from the jangly guitar radiance within “Sin” to a lushly enveloping synth-fronted introspection within “Moonshine,” the release excels with vibe-heavy productions, further bolstered by laid-back vocals exuding a poetic lyrical presence.
An enjoyably woozy sound compels on “Suns Collided,” opening the EP with subdued vocal entrancement and hazy synth complements. “Breeze at Dawn” follows with a similarly lush intrigue. The lyricism exudes a sense of anticipation in lines like “I can wait until tomorrow,” — caressing amidst gentle guitar lines and a warming backing illumination. A more ardent, jangly guitar presence emanates throughout “Sin,” where a spoken-word vocal murmuring aligns with these jangling guitars into bursting glistening past the one-minute turn. The EP quickly showcases its strong atmospheric strengths, fit for nighttime contemplation, across its three opening tracks.
An immersive range of atmosphere-filled productions continue from there. “Moonshine” presents a more upfront vocal emotion, maintaining a coolness within glimmering synth tones; a dash of swelling distortion around 01:25 builds with an especially climactic grip. Another highlight, “Demon” captivates in its dynamic tonal prowess, between bouncier percussive pulses and starry-eyed electronic effervescence amidst lyrical sentiments of feeling lost. “Bona Fide Soul” also enthralls, propelling with a serene glow of twinkling piano and string-laden melancholy. Moonshine is a lovely success of an EP from Baydream, impressing consistently with a knack for dreamily inviting soundscapes.
