Afsaneh – “Look to the Sky”

/

A serenely melodic pop success, “Look to the Sky” is the new single from Reno-based artist Afsaneh. Its contemplative feelings — echoed in the serene instrumentation and “I look to the sky,” introspection — enamors within a glowing dream-pop allure. The song’s creative process arose from a songwriting and analysis class, which Afsaneh took while studying at California Institute of the Arts. The provided task was to write one song per day for a week, and “Look to the Sky” was the song she wrote on day #1. And what a success it is.

A quaint fusing of lush keys and dreamy vocals assemble initially, culminating in a blissful “I look to the sky,” vocal soaring — reminiscent tonally of Beach House. Sampled vocal snippets add an enjoyable rhythmic effect into the “ice cream melted on my lips,” spaciousness, complemented thereafter by hazy synth frolicking. The track consistently compels in its build-ups from understated calmness to more expansive vocal emotion — where elongated vocal effects resonate within a title-touting resonance. “Look to the Sky” is a dreamy pop success from Afsaneh.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
