Von LaRae – “2 Is Company”

/

Indianapolis-based artist Von LaRae struts a smoothly atmospheric soul-forward sound on “2 Is Company,” a track inspired “by the freedom of movement and just how hard it is to stay still,” per the artist. Intoxicating vocal layers, lush synths, and trickling guitars feature amongst the self-produced track; LaRae made the track on their own, on a late tequila-fueled night. Visiting their parents in Indiana for the holiday, LaRae got deep into a creative session. “It was so amazing because that night I wrote two of the most special songs on my upcoming record that it is truly a core memory,” they explain.

Glistening keys and plucky instrumentation weave beautifully into vocal sighs, melding into an introspective vocal presence. “Why you laying with your clothes off?” they ask, hypnotizing into gorgeous “somebody else,” harmonious vocal reflections. “Can you be my company?” is asked with sharply melodic charm, driving to an especially riveting sequence past the two-minute turn, where the lead vocals and responsive backings correlate with magnetic immersion. Full of late-night atmospheric vibes and stylish production chops, “2 Is Company” is a thorough success from Von LaRae.

This and other tracks can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Indie Funk and Soul’ Spotify playlist.
