A peppy and infectious rock gem from VELIKA VELIKA, “Trust” builds from twangy entrancement into a synth-touched lushness — maintaining a replay-inducing vigor throughout. The Coventry, England-based band infuse thematic ruminations on trust, and especially the unconditional love apparent between a dog and his human companion. The good-vibe lyricism — conveying joy, trust, and carefree living that every canine best friend deserves — is complemented by a similarly chipper rock arsenal, spanning from glistening guitar hypnotics to punchy rhythmic bursts.
Initially crafted as a more lo-fi production, “Trust” expanded considerably at Nottingham-based studio JT Soar. Live drums, twangy guitar delights, 808s, and a variety of other infusions added to the quality songwriting and thematic drive, described as “about trust, joy, and the freedom to throw yourself into life without fear—all inspired by the chaotic, loving friendship of a dog and his three-times-bigger best mate.”
Contemplative lyrics and twanging guitar momentum adorn the gripping first sequence, driving with contagious allure. “Taking all your toys,” the vocals kick off as synths enter the fold, capturing a dog’s mischievousness and how that ensuing fun chaos can inspire a more daring, fulfilling life. The “here we go again!” declaration is enjoyably punctuated by playful guitar lines into the two-minute turn, culminating in an anthemic finale with pulsing rhythmic prowess and layered vocal enticements, asking “do you wanna feel afraid of living?” VELIKA VELIKA impress thoroughly with a motivational, spirited rock enamoring on “Trust.”
