“Milte Hi Ankhen,” the latest single from The Beatroot Road, enamors in its hypnotic spaciousness and intercultural cohesion. Vancouver-based Indian film singer Sharan Kaur plays a prominent role with her soaring vocal captivation, while Jamaican singer and rapper Sledge also contributes a punchy vocal performance. UK-based artist Dee Dee Hoptone also plays bass on the track. Also impressing a couple months ago with “It’s a Laugh in the West,” The Beatroot Road continues to be led by Mark Russell and Hazel Fairbairn. On this track, Russell plays Bodhran and tambourine, while Hazel plays chop and tune violins.
Also accompanied by a mesmerizing music video featuring Indian dancer Vandana Prajapati, “Milte Hi Ankhen” is another stirring success within The Beatroot Road’s overall conceptual aim of international collaboration and eclectic stylistic pursuits — not constrained by any preceding aesthetical norms. The Bodhran usage is intoxicating throughout, utilizing varying effects and processes despite being a single-drum performance. Fairbairn’s violin work is also enveloping; a fusion of electric bass violin, viola, and fiddles results in an exotic and satiating intrigue. “Milte Hi Ankhen” is a resonating third single from The Beatroot Road.
