Sam Wrangle – “Cast Away”

/

A spirited rock success inspired by the movie of the same name, “Cast Away” is a recent single from Australian artist Sam Wrangle. Also featuring notable Brisbane-based drummer drummer Sandro Abate, the track excels in its dynamic range — spanning from jangling rock soaring to a subdued bass-heavy momentum approaching mid-point. “You look lost, wherever are you heading?” Wrangle’s melodic vocals let out following a title-touting intrigue. “You are the love of my life,” they ring out thereafter, capping off the track with spirited charisma.

“Should never have gotten on that plane,” another memorable sequence kickstarts, referencing the scene in Cast Away before Tom Hanks’ character becomes stranded on the island. The “she goes home,” segment struts a bass-led allure, sharply complemented by arriving guitars and carrying in enjoyably melodic form through the end. “When something almost makes me cry I know it’s ripe for lyricism,” Wrangle says. “So a lot of the lyrics are lifted straight from the film.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
