Nico Cann – “Light Over the Ridge”

/

London-based artist Nico Cann struts an invigorating alt-pop sound on new single “Light Over the Ridge.” Anthemic vocals, bursting brass, and twinkling keys drive across a replay-inducing production, balancing between a saxophone-touched smoothness and charismatically effervescent pop outpouring. The rising 20-year-old artist describes the triumphant-sounding track: “The ridge portrays a climb towards a reality that’s reachable, despite all the odds, if you truly believe in what you do and constantly push yourself to do better and better.”

“Light Over the Ride” is part of Cann’s forthcoming debut album, Silver Lining. It’s hard to not get excited for that release, based on the quality of “Light Over the Ridge.” The “standing on the side of a rundown road,” initial verses cast a downcast feeling, traversing with gripping introspection as chiming piano and steady percussion converge. “A slow burning memory, flashes through my mind,” Cann sings as the blaring brass and stylish guitars arrive with more prominence, gearing thereafter into the anthemic title-touting hook.

The primary refrain — referring to the “light over the ridge,” — is especially empowering, urging to focus on that beacon of hope that persists even during the darkest of valleys. If one keeps their eyes to that light, no matter how faint its glimmering may be, that perseverance can lead to defying odds and triumphant success. “Light Over the Ridge” is a stirring success from Nico Cann.
