An introspective success from My Glass World, “Words” melds haunting vocal harmonies and orchestral power within poignant ruminations on the power/influence of communication. “We are surrounded by Words and though we give them scant time we absorb them and are affected by them and adjust our behaviours sometimes subtly sometimes crucially, says composer, singer, and musician Jamie Telford. The track comes via My Glass World’s upcoming album Stranded Assets. The London-based project also features Sean Read on saxophone and with his talents in the studio.
A particularly stirring element arises in the culminating “beautiful words of love,” refrain, cohesively moving amidst stately piano, heartrending strings, and ghostly backing vocals. This stirring climax comes after a resonating build, spanning from initial “words hang silent to be announced,” contemplations into chilly string insertions. “Words of celebration, of jubilation, of desperation, of violation,” the vocals continue, ascending into their positive, love-focused power.
“Words” is impactful and poignant in its portrayal of words and communication as a driving force for mending pain and strife, though perhaps lost in a world so driven by technological distortion. This form of meaningful commentary compels amidst a melodic, well-produced success — a tendency likely to appear throughout the forthcoming Stranded Assets.
“Sometimes you write material that doesn’t fit together as an album,” Telford says. “The songs on Stranded Assets however are the opposite, and it’s perhaps because a lot of them were conceived independently, and I have had a bit more time to reflect on them. There’s more ‘mood’ evident in the songs and, because Sean and myself have worked together on four albums now, there’s an ease to the way these tracks have come together.”
