Kaiyenn – “if u were mine”

/

A dreamy, soulful bedroom-pop entrancement takes hold on “if u were mine,” a new single from Kaiyenn. An emotively atmospheric sound emanates within, swirling lush guitar jangles and sporadic percussive pulses amidst the artist’s serene vocal presence. “Love is a really complicated yet beautiful thing that i really try to capture in my songs including this one,” Kaiyenn explains. The production is enjoyably intimate, recorded entirely in his bedroom and drawing from R&B influences like Frank Ocean and Steve Lacy.

Echoed vocals and nocturnal guitar tones move enjoyably into a steady percussive pit-pattering, aesthetically reminding of the soundscapes crafted by James Ferraro. A title-touting refrain exudes a ghostly intrigue as the lead vocals emit an introspective pull. The moody guitar reflections and intoxicating rhythms intertwine with thoroughly hypnotic effect. The production features the first time Kaiyenn used guitar pickings, while also noting that “I really tried to use my own voice as a sample.” The result is captivating, strutting a heady atmosphere and palpable lyrical yearning that results in a replay-inducing success.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
