Jefferson Pitcher – “The Crane”

/

A moody, emotively gripping rock sound compels throughout “The Crane,” a new single from guitarist and composer Jefferson Pitcher. A brisk bass pulse and lushly chiming guitar/piano interplay arrive into the haunting “find me now,” vocal touch. Burgeoning guitar lines signal enjoyable momentum, with the “crane fly you away…” reference gearing enjoyably into an affecting hook. The two-minute turn enamors further with atmospheric guitar trickling, building into another series of consuming verses. Shades of The National and R.E.M. show enjoyably in this standout production.

The track comes via the Northern California-based artist’s upcoming album The Bellows, marking a return to more conventional song form following releases more embracing of improvisation and noise. Another single will follow next month, before Pitcher returns to the studio in May to commence work on “an instrumental jazz quartet imagining of The Bellows.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
