A darkly electronic twist on “Sunkissed Shadows” comes via the Solemn Youth remix, turning the original track from Indianapolis-based act Homunculus Algorithm into a more synth-dominant aesthetic. Solemn Youth, aka Adam Stilson, pushes back the guitars and embraces the ghostly industrial synth-forward realm. The result is captivating and thematically befitting of a track described as “written about the role anyone and everyone plays in the evils they perceive in the world.”
A moody title-touting declaration maneuvers alongside darkly gripping synth-bass and clamoring industrial-friendly percussion. The track’s strong atmosphere is quickly evident, and never lets up. A ghostly vocal wavering persists in the background, weaving in seamlessly as flashes of additional synths arise into the cautioning “don’t stare while the beast is growing stronger,” vocals. The haunting vocal lead melds with the grimy synths and steady percussion to craft a stirring invigoration, particularly as the “my guilty,” refrain takes hold amidst gurgling electronic entrancement. Solemn Youth’s remix of Homunculus Algorithm’s “Sunkissed Shadows” is a memorably dark atmospheric success.
