Hello Midlands – “Moon”

/

A nighttime-set stylishness emanates throughout “Moon,” a single from Hello Midlands. The Brighton, England-based act capture a certain special time and place — “just you and me and nighttime and the moon,” — within a dynamic production. Both haunting balladry and rousing, emotionally charged culminations show within. “Moon” certainly has us anticipating the project’s upcoming album, Placeford, out in April.

Gentle bass pulses and glistening piano complement a heartrending, yearning vocal expanse. “Do you like the same songs I do? I was hoping maybe that you might,” they let out, arriving into the “just look up at the moon,” soulfulness. That title-touting sequence stirs in its evident emotion, seamlessly leading back into the “outside at the carpark,” nocturnal verses. The track envelops in its range between more ballad-set, starry-eyed pining and its stylish escalations; the latter is especially evident in the final section, reminding fondly of Pulp in the clanging guitar, piano, and vocal dramatics. “Moon” is a stirring success from Hello Midlands.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
