Flavor Wave – “Motivation”

//

Exuding feelings of personal stagnancy amidst a soulful, funky rock production, “Motivation” is a memorable new track from Flavor Wave. They have made waves across the Greater Philadelphia scene with memorable live performances and an eclectic array of songs, with “Motivation” embracing the funk realm in its charismatic guitar lines and melodic vocal outpouring. Various vocal layers interact within a dynamic tonal range, spanning from infectious vigor to dreamier segments; the “I don’t wanna make a big mistake,” bridge exemplifies the latter, and excels in its moody intrigue.

Lyrically stirring in accounts of personal drive and trying to get oneself out of a rut, “Motivation” builds with a climactic funk-rock swell. “Still living in that old house with your friends, still scraping by just to pay the rent,” the verses lament, arriving into a moment of catharsis: “I don’t want to waste my life away.” Reflections on time’s quick passage follow, as a tender guitar line soars past the one-minute turn. “I’m stuck in a funk, can’t get over the hump,” the vocals continue, gearing up into another delectably replay-inducing “time is moving faster by the day,” chorus. “Motivation” is a delectably grooving rock success from Flavor Wave.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
