Eoin Shannon – ‘Hello Forever’

An impactful debut album from Eoin Shannon, Hello Forever compels with a solemn introspection — traversing across realms of ghostly acoustics and moody folk-rock infusions. The Cork, Ireland-based artist describes the release as “influenced mostly by dark moods and turning to God and my father when they occurred.” The result is grippingly dynamic, ranging from the Nick Cave-esque haunts of “Dear Daddy What Would You Do” to the duet-driven mystique within the title track.

The release also excels in its featuring of talented collaborators. Larry Magee produced 10 of the album tracks, cohesively balancing somber folk-ready ruminations and more ardent rock-ready expanses. Amongst the standout tracks is “Dark November,” where frolicking acoustics and twangy electric guitar converge wonderfully amidst a backing illuminatoon; Andrei Sorokin helped helm that atmospheric effort.

Irish artist Chanele also contributes, with the dreamy acoustic-laden “Night is Dark” featuring her beautiful vocals. Hello Forever is a collection of fantastic songwriting and production, excelling across both sparse folk gorgeousness like “Night is Dark,” mid-tempo charmers like “Gambling Again,” and introspective rock jaunts in the vein of “Everybody Got Crazy In Them.”

“Gambling Again” is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
