First grabbing our ears with the track “Dark Streets” in 2023, DYAN envelops with new single “Acoustic Midwest.” The solo project of film composer Alexis Dyan Marsh, DYAN describes this release as “the alternate mix of a more filled-out version; a reduction that brings out a tentative, delicate feel that brings out the tender defiance of leaving.”
Trickling acoustics lead into a vocal admission — “I’m not going back to California,” — that exudes those aforementioned feelings of leaving. “I’ll be fine with my baby, in the heart of the country, I can just sit still.” The depictions of a warming escape, and an embrace for using one’s invigorated spirit to fend for themselves, proves resonating into the ghostly wordless vocal backings. “Acoustic Midwest” is another success from DYAN.
