Diana Omar – “angel in despair”

/

Baltimore-based artist Diana Omar exudes a grippingly vulnerable captivation on “angel in despair,” coming via her upcoming album. A well-produced fusing of soulful and haunting pop complements a thematic depiction of obsession, specifically exploring “the act of stalking others online, and the heartbreaking discoveries that come with it.” It’s a continued display in high-quality songwriting from Omar, catching our ears in the past with tracks like “matching your energy” and “gold.”

“Every time I look, I just get hurt,” Omar’s soulful vocals lament from the start, complemented by playful guitar strums and moody piano adornments. A thumping rhythmic climax swirls as she beckons “to stay with me, if you dare — I’ll be the angel in despair.” The two-minute turn stirs in particular, with a sparser rhythmic-less spaciousness as Omar’s vocals continue into the “girl near the Chesapeake Bay,” proclamation. The central title-touting refrain provides a moving, enjoyably repeating infectiousness, as more introspective vocal smoothness shows throughout the compelling verses. “angel in despair” is another thorough success from Diana Omar.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
