Col Gerrard – “The Way I Feel”

/

A stirringly heartfelt sound enamors on “The Way I Feel,” the latest from Col Gerrard. The track follows up the standout single “Come On Over,” which caught our ears with its vibrant hookiness. Conversely, “The Way I Feel” exudes a compelling somberness. Gerrard’s melodic vocals lament “you don’t know the way I feel,” in the gripping central hook, touting a tonal sense of mourning as elegant piano and twanging guitar theatrics meld beautifully.

“And another day rolls by, and another baby cries, and another feeling dies again,” the bleakness continues, traversing into a delectably moody chorus that reminds fondly of modern-era Manic Street Preachers. “Baby, don’t you wanna see the future?” signals a consuming bridge, with particularly magnetic piano lines and caressing backing acoustics. The concluding “you don’t know,” refrain furthers the emotive power apparent throughout.

“The Way I Feel” marks another success from Col Gerrard that has us firmly anticipating his upcoming album, due to release in April. Based on this single and the several preceding, we can anticipate a dynamic tonal production with consistently from-the-heart songwriting — enveloping across both infectious brightness and melancholic intrigue.
