Ceremony Shadows – “Prey”

//

Portland, OR-based band Ceremony Shadows continue to captivate with a memorable fusing of darkwave and post-punk on their new single “Prey.” Per the band, the track “reflects the passive complacency of the collective victim, stirring us to awaken to the habitual, fear-based mindset that traps us in comfort and conformity.”

Releasing ahead of their upcoming album, Ascension, “Prey” builds with a hypnotic intoxication — moving with a throbbing synth-bass and sensual vocal effects. Spacey synth clanging builds enjoyably amidst the sporadic lead vocals, haunting with their spoken-word feeling. “Dehumanize, divide, survive,” they let out, artfully exuding a sort of dystopic, nocturnal soundscape that unfolds with charismatic precision. “Prey” is a stylish, melodically gripping success.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
