Swelling from dreamy pop introspection to a fuzzy array of invigorating rock textures, “goodbye” is a recent track from Denver-based band Blackberry Crush. Recently signing to local label Mean World Records, the band is gearing up for an upcoming EP and continued tour. Pyper Tiffany’s lead vocals are riveting in their dynamic pull, ranging from the “stuck in the rearview,” lusher subduedness to more erupting passion. Charlie Laxague’s calming backing vocals and dynamic guitar work further bolster the standout production, in addition to the precise rhythm section of bassist Ella Tyler and drummer Nick Schell.
Gentle guitar jangles and lulling percussion swirl with hypnotic immersion to start, as Tiffany’s vocals pacify with a melodic charm. Laxague’s backing vocal presence signals an impending momentum, culminating in doses of guitar distortion that satiate in their whirring intensity. The production masterfully shifts between dream-pop elegance and impassioned raucousness. The final minute is particularly exemplary of their hard-rocking inclinations, as multiple vocal layers assemble grippingly within the sturdy guitar explosiveness, showing shades of Spiritualized and Slowdive there. “goodbye” is a wholly resonating success from Blackberry Crush.
