A range of spirited, twangy rock and moving string-laden balladry immerse across Man on the Corner, the debut from Los Angeles-based artist TT. With personal obstacles arisen from a chronic kidney condition, diagnosed as a child, TT places particular emphasis on seizing moments and treasuring the time we have. Personal experiences with this battle — in addition to “working like a dog,” at times to pay the bills — have provided TT with an affirming outlook on life, with a carpe-diem mentality.
The self-produced album resonates in its quality songwriting and consistent thematic outlook. “There’s an overall feeling of using the time you have left,” TT says. “These are experiences and words that I hope everyone can relate to. We’re all human. We all struggle with these issues. We all have mortality.”
A compelling tonal variety enamors throughout, spanning from the rollicking Americana jubilance within “My Kind of Cowgirl” to the haunting string-laden ballad “Heal My Mind.” Opening track “My Confession” is another highlight, referencing survival and perseverance into a jangling “my biggest sin is deep within,” central hook. A title-touting stirring takes hold thereafter. “Ghost in Your Shoes” is another fervent standout, imploring a title-touting questioning and synth-touched rock bounciness for a memorably melodic charm; a rousing guitar solo electrifies as the two-minute turn approaches. Man on the Corner represents a thorough success from TT.
