Tangerine Cassette – ‘EXclusive club’ EP

A stylishly contagious pop appeal shows throughout EXclusive club, a magnetic new EP from songwriter/producer duo Tangerine Cassette. Recalling the confident, charismatic pop of Charli XCX, as well as Sophie’s electro-pop ingenuity, the EP navigates meaningful themes amidst hook-filled productions. Divorce, betrayal, and eventual recovery from heartbreak enamor within these standout tracks.

“I know I’m a problem!” the charismatic vocals declare on opening track “EXclusive club,” which takes pride in “being a lot,” as buzzing synths pair with dynamic vocals — appealing across both spoken-word suaveness (“I got athletes in my DMs,”) and more melodic vigor. This infectious opener traverses seamlessly into the ensuing “HELLO IT’S THE NEW ME,” continuing the electro-pop bravado. A title-touting escalation melds with climactic synth tones for an especially replay-inducing intrigue, joined by bouncier percussive appeal at mid-point.

A bass-heavy pop expanse appeals on “FLIP IT BACK AGAIN,” fondly reminiscent of Sophie in the throbbing synths and stylish vocal incorporations. “TOLD YOU SO” channels a more ardent journey into shout-ier vocals, calling out “I told you so!” as prancing synths and clanging percussion meld beautifully. EP finale “HEY LITTLE BABY” caps it off in satiating form. “I’ll be your ride or die,” vocals tempt, cohesively moving into a dreamy “every time you look my way,” organ-laden charm; it makes for another hook-y success with eclectic variety between lushness and grimy pop magic.
