London-based act OH ROSA craft a memorable blend of folk, country, and pop on new single “Mary (I am here but i am gone.” The duo describe the release as exploring “the bittersweet journey of growing old together,” — particularly touching on shared memories and the fading nature of remembering them; the passage of time within relationships, and the bittersweet experience of growing old together, is conveyed with artful and melodic precision.
Warming harmonica, steady acoustic strums, and elegant piano assemble right away for a melodically caressing charm. “I see the world through your eyes,” Rosie Benson’s soaring vocals let out. “Mary I’m here, but I’m gone.” The title-touting refrain is particularly affecting, particularly as the gliding piano and reflective vocal layers intermingle seamlessly. The harmonica and piano interplay then returns, easing cohesively back into the introspective verses. The track is pleasing in its familiar structural direction and comforting central chorus, capped off by an inviting piano-forward conclusion that wholly satiates.
