Gianfranco Malorgio – “The Sleeping Whale”

/

Venturing from folk-touched calmness into a spacey electronic soundscape, “The Sleeping Whale” is another memorable track from Gianfranco Malorgio. The Italian artist caught our ears in recent months with tracks like “WOP” and “Phoenix,” and “The Sleeping Whale” represents his most recent foray into blissfully atmospheric soundscapes and engaging structural momentum, inspired by fantasy films and with a potential film adaptation in mind.

An electro-folk enamoring takes hold initially, melding spacey synths and plucky guitar tones amidst a playful percussive pulse. Hints of guitar feedback arise into a punchy synth-bass as the production shifts into a more electronic embrace. Bass-y reverberations continue to intensify as the synth tones elongate into a layered entrancement. A full-on electronic splendor is in force across the final minute, invoking a tranquil sci-fi sense as the futuristic-sounding synth lushness melds cohesively with hypnotic rhythms. Featuring a riveting soundscape, “The Sleeping Whale” is considerably easy to get lost within.

This and other tracks can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Electronic’ Spotify playlist.
