Derek Lassiter – “Years & Years”

/

Oakland-based artist Derek Lassiter crafts a tender, heartfelt folk appeal on the new track “Years & Years.” Lassiter’s solemn vocal enthrallment pairs with lush guitars, twinkling keys, and a slight backing organ as ruminations on self-love, resilience, and time’s arduous passage prove artful. Lassiter wrote the single as a tribute to his ancestor Blackberri, a noted musician and activist. “This song is a tribute to the memories and lessons that shape us and the love that carries us forward,” Lassiter explains. “I hope it inspires listeners to reflect on their own stories with gratitude and courage.”

“How many stars carry your wishes?” warming vocals open, consuming with their sense of introspection and atmospheric serenity. The production moves seamlessly throughout as Lassiter’s voice melds with a caressing folk-forward arsenal. The “years and years,” segment gives way to a passionate rise, arriving into glistening piano and soulful backing harmonies. “Love was there, every step all along / Filled you up, every breath, every song,” Lassiter’s comforting vocals shine. “Years & Years” is a moving, emotively sincere folk success from Derek Lassiter.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
