Unveiling an atmospheric and introspective ambient allure, Before the Void is a stirring new album from Ales Tsurko. An artful thematic pursuit explores how beauty, tranquility, and promise can quickly turn into darker, somber times. One example is the blissful track “The Summer Morning in Minsk,” inspired by a night the artist experienced with friends — and which culminated in watching the sun rise from a rooftop parking lot. “It was a simple but profound experience that reminded me how joyful shared moments can be,” Tsurko says. “I miss the simplicity and innocence of those days — a time when I had no idea what hardships were coming.”
Tsurko explains the album’s central focus: “Even in dark times, I believe it’s important to find and cherish the beauty around us. These moments of beauty keep us going and give us hope. I hope that through this album, you might find glimpses of that beauty and maybe remember your own moments of light during tough times.”
The Kraków-based artist crafts an album that excels from the first track. “No. 9” expands patiently within an array of heartrending strings and twinkling intrigue; the soundscape resembles something that one would witness in the depths of winter, as snow falls gently. “No. 12” follows with a more intense initial statement, presenting a helicopter-like whirring that builds with arpeggiated momentum into spacious synth pads. “Odessa, 1978” is another standout, impressing with a spacey atmospheric pull as twangy synths emit melodic frequencies fit for space exploration. Before the Void is an impactful ambient success from Ales Tsurko.
