al kenizo – “Find My Own Way”

/

Haunting piano and pulsing electro-minded rhythms coalesce grippingly on “Find My Own Way,” an atmospheric new single from Australian artist al kenizo. His fondness for deep house and dreamy soundscapes culminate in a memorable aesthetic, lyrically striving to “find my own way,” in conveying a perseverance to prevail through darkness and tumult. al kenizo makes the music entirely on his own, and recorded this particular track in a bathroom; the location represents a safe space for the artist, who converted his bathroom to a place of productive solace during struggles with PTSD.

The combination of isolation and erupting emotions pair with the solace-like recoding setting for a sincerely affecting sound. A more house-forward pulse takes hold initially, as deeply intoxicating drums and heady bass intertwine. The vocals project an airy and haunting captivation, with tonal shades of a reverbed Mark Hollis. “I’ll find my own way,” they let out as the mellow piano incorporates; the track impresses in its dynamics between ruminating rhythmic backings and more elegant piano-driven intrigue, fully succeeding in its emotional ferocity and engaging soundscape.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
