Captivating with an introspective blend of post-rock, slowcore, and ambient intrigue, “Alberta” is a memorable new single from Airships on the Water, the solo recording project of multi-instrumentalist Russel Hensley, based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The live instrumentation consumes throughout, enamoring with warming guitar tones, steady percussion, and a mid-point burst in emotion.
A moody initial arsenal takes hold, propelled by a somber bass pulse and trickling, reverbed guitar tones; a nocturnal soundscape is evident from the get-go and carries with compelling developments throughout. The pensive guitar/bass interactions play with caressingly melodic charm, and satiate further around the four-minute mark — where more vibrant guitar layers emerge.
