Transmissions + Henry Walters – ‘Slippers and Robes for Slappers and Rubes’ EP

A collaborative EP from Henry Walters and Transmissions, Slippers and Robes for Slappers and Rube envelops across both fervent rockers (“Mermaid”) and ambient electronic experimentation (“Alpine Blues”). The release represents an evenly divided collaboration — featuring two reciprocal covers, two new collaborative tracks, and a new original song each.

“Human Get-Together” opens the album with a charming, stream-of-conscious feeling. “You’ll have egg on your face at the human get-together,” the vocals let out amidst steady acoustic guitar and gentle piano touches. Ardent pulses of electric guitar punctuate the title-touting chorus, distinguishing between the peppier vocal pace within the verses. This melodic, approachable production drives into Henry Walters’ “Mermaid,” an invigorating rocker — excelling in moments like “I gave my money to a man I hate,” where the vocals swelter alongside a hooky guitar-forward vigor. Henry Walters and Transmissions cover each other on the tracks “Mermaid” and “Swallow My Pride,” providing enjoyable twists on their originals.

Concluding the EP is a new track from both Henry Walters and Transmissions. “Angel” exudes a sensual yearning — “let me pop the cork,” — amidst playful, glam-tinged rock pursuits. “She’s my angel,” the vocals repeat amidst wordless backing reflections, inducing replays in the range between the dreamy hook and snarling guitars across the verses. The EP is a thoroughly compelling success from these talented two acts.

“Human Get-Together” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
